Reminder: FREE Wildfire Mitigation Work Available!

A reminder for Dunsmuir residents that there are two free, active wildfire mitigation projects in town.

See information on the two projects below.

Project 1:

The Fire Safe Council of Siskiyou County’s wildfire mitigation project, which is focused on the east side of the Sacramento River, is gearing up to start this month.

The work will start near the southern end of South 1st Street and work its way northward within the project focus area. The project focus area is the entire east side of the Sacramento River from the Shasta County Line, up to Tauhindauli Park, including streets like South 1st, Mican, Butterfly, and River, and all other streets on that side of the river.

If you haven’t signed up and want the free wildfire mitigation work, and are within that project area, you must sign up NOW! The contractor will work with you to remove only the vegetation you want removed. Please fill out this form (link) and drop it off at City Hall to sign up.

PROJECT 2:

This project is a joint effort between CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) and the Fire Safe Council of Siskiyou County.

For this project, a member of CORE will visit your property and provide a free home assessment, outlining everything you can do to make your property more fire-resistant. Then, CORE will decide if your property is eligible for free contractor work to reduce vegetation on your property. All properties in Dunsmuir are eligible for free home assessments and may qualify for free work.

Home Assessments are ongoing, and vegetation work for eligible properties will begin in a few months. To sign up, CLICK HERE and fill out the form!

If you want more information on either project, stop by City Hall - 5915 Dunsmuir Ave.
