New Wildfire Project coming to Dunsmuir!

There’s a new wildfire project coming to Dunsmuir! CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) is working with the Fire Safe Council of Siskiyou County to deliver the project funded through the Community Wildfire Defense Grant. All properties are eligible in Siskiyou County. But there is a limit of 500 homes across the entire county! So, sign up fast! The project will provide property owners with a free home assessment, and some of those assessed homes will be eligible for free defensible space work.

To sign up for this project, please call 530-598-3708 or email cwdgsiskiyou@gmail.com. You can also visit the website (link) to learn more and sign up online.

Properties that have previously signed up for other Siskiyou Fire Safe Council projects, but fell outside the project work area for those projects, will be prioritized and contacted.

Update on the Southeast Dunsmuir Fuels Project

The Fuels project focuses on River Ave, Butterfly Ave, South First Street, and all other side streets on the east side of the river from Tauhindauli Park down to the County line, and is currently going out to bid to secure a contractor. Work is expected to begin in August 2025. Properties that have signed up for the project will be contacted before the work begins. More details coming soon!

Most properties that have signed up for this project that fall outside of the focus area will also be included in this project. Those that cannot be included will be pushed to the CORE project identified above and prioritized to ensure they are not missed.

If you want to sign up for the Southeast Dunsmuir Fuels Project, email Stephen.Decatur@ci.dunsmuir.ca.us. Once work begins in August, it will be too late!
