More Frequent and Longer Power Outages May Occur this Year

Pacific Power provided the City with some information regarding the increased likelihood of power outages this summer.

Due to elevated wildfire risk, Pacific Power is taking additional safety precautions. Pacific Power turned on enhanced safety settings and protective devices on our equipment that will automatically de-energize power lines when debris, wildlife, or strong winds contact the lines.

  • Because of this, Pacific Power may not provide advanced notice of these outages. Power will remain on under normal conditions, but it will shut off automatically if something contacts the line for the safety of customers and communities. Circuits have to be patrolled prior to reenergizing to ensure safety.

  • When these settings are in place, customers should expect more frequent and longer-duration outages.
