Bradley Fire Update 4:30pm - 9/1/2017

Due to the progress on containing the Bradley fire the Advisory Evacuations for the Shasta Retreat area is being lifted. The US Forestry Incident Commander, Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department, and Dunsmuir Fire Chief, met a short while ago and believe that the work performed yesterday and today by field resources, and favorable weather conditions, have allowed them to rescind the evacuation.

While the fire is still a concern for the City of Dunsmuir this is encouraging news, and I would like to recognize all the hard work of the all the crews fighting this fire to protect our homes and businesses. I would also like to personally recognize Dunsmuir’s Fire Chief Dan Padilla, and US Forestry Incident Commander Drew Grahm. THANK YOU!

Public Notice - Coliform Violation

The City of Dunsmuir provides extensive monitoring of its drinking water to ensure its safety. In July 2017 sampling tested positive for total coliform. The presence of coliform bacteria in the water does not mean the water is unsafe to drink, but an indicator that there could be a problem with the system. In this case staff believes the sample point was the issue, and a new sample point is being installed.

Bradley Fire Update 09:40 8/29/2017

At approximately 10pm on August 28, 2017 a fire was reported near the little league ball field which is located West of Highway 5 in the Northern part of the City. Firefighters were dispatched to the area and are working to hold a line to the East of the fire to prevent it from heading into the Shasta Retreat area. The Shasta Retreat is currently under an advisement for evacuation. The US Forest Services is the lead agency with CalFire and local government fire departments in support. The US Forestry has placed a request for air support in battling the fire located in the steep and mountainous terrain, and is expecting to receive this support soon.

Dunsmuir Marijuana Task Force

The City of Dunsmuir is in the process of forming the Dunsmuir Marijuana Task Force and has an open seat available for interested persons to submit an application to participate. The Marijuana Task Force is an advisory committee to the City Council that will work collaboratively to develop recommendations relating to the regulation of cannabis in the City of Dunsmuir.

Notice: Regular Council Meeting/Public Meeting Canceled

The City of Dunsmuir is canceling its regular Council meeting on May 4th, and the scheduled Public meeting to present projects for Council consideration to apply for the next round of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program funding. The meeting is being canceled due to the lack of a quorum. The agenda items for the May 4th meeting will be considered for the next regular Council meeting on May 18th.

Job Posting for Account Receivable / Payable Clerk

The City of Dunsmuir is accepting applications for an Accounts Receivable/Payable Clerk.  Under general supervision of the Finance Director to perform work of moderate difficulty in maintaining financial records, processing financial records, processing financial transactions, preparing financial reports, performing a variety of clerical, computer and bookkeeping duties and responsibilities, preparing a variety of documents and do related work as required.

Snow Removal Information

The propose of snow removal is for emergency access, mail delivery, public commuting and commercial deliveries.

  • Snow removal generally begins when 2 or more inches of snow has fallen.

  • On street parking is prohibited during snow removal operations. Vehicles not moved during snow removal operations can be towed and moved to a storage area at the owner’s expense.

  • Alternative parking is available on a limited basis at South City Hall parking lot, North City Hall Parking lot, and the Community Center Building parking lot at City Park.

  • Presidents and businesses operations may keep current on snow removal operations and weather predictions via television, radio, or other means and are asked to move their vehicles accordingly.

Flooding Information - 02/09/2017

DUNSMUIR FLOOD INFORMATION

FEBRUARY 9, 2017

The National Weather Service placed the area that includes City of Dunsmuir in “flood advisory”.  They are considering raising that level to flood warning.

At this time water is over the headwall at the south end of Butterfly and just north of Gillis.  That portion of roadway has been closed by the City.

Water in the Sacramento River is just under the level that caused flooding along Butterfly Ave in 2015.  Residents in this area are asked to be cautious and aware that an evacuation advisory and ultimately an evacuation order may be issued.

The City has arranged with St. John’s Parrish Hall at 5605 Shasta Ave. to shelter those who may be displaced.

There was a mud slide that closed portion of Dunsmuir Ave. just south of I-5 south bound on ramp which is south of bridge that is south of Chevron Station.  This area has just been reopened after Caltrans crew repaired culverts from top of hillside that were not accepting storm drain waters.  Caltrans will continue to monitor this area as the repair work is temporary fix with permanent fix to be done this summer.

Anyone with emergency issue is asked to contact Dunsmuir Fire Department at 530-235-2551 or call 911.   Siskiyou County Sheriff’s department also has extra officers working the Dunsmuir and south county areas.  Dunsmuir Public Works crew and Dunsmuir Public Utilities crew members are out and about attempting to keep storm drain system open and unclogged.
